ARTIST STATEMENT
Frequency is an unconscious playground of freedom. I have no idea where I am going when I begin a collection. Sometimes I may have a color I want to use, but there isn’t very much information present other than a kindling inside to begin. I started with around nine pieces of raw canvas in late winter and had a desire to get lost in many more, so I added more to the collection. I wasn’t sure where they were taking me, but I knew I wanted to be where they were going. The collection was finished months ago, ready to be released, but something told me to keep going, keep exploring and get lost in an entirely new frequency of energy within the pieces. I let go of my mind and let my body lead the way, following the direction of my hand. I was surprised by the patterns that appeared from one piece to the next, and I was inspired by the infusion of drawing on the painted canvases. The mystery of life was presenting itself to me on the canvases of these 27 works. I had no real understanding of what was intuitively appearing on the canvas, but I also didn’t think I needed to. Art is an exploration and a releasing of expression that doesn’t need to be defined. It’s a frequency that speaks for itself to parts of ourselves and to others delivering messages we didn’t know needed delivering. Allowing ourselves the gift of exploration and play takes us on a journey to find ourselves, our gift to the world. We are all so uniquely gifted and yet we battle our own individuality and fight against it. Freedom is found when we step toward the light that is found in our hearts and embrace our God-given uniqueness. When I completed Frequency, I didn’t even know what to do with it. I sat with it for weeks trying to understand it. It scared me because it was so different from anything I had ever created. It felt otherworldly, alive, mysterious, ancient, and yet it also felt so playful. Ultimately, I fell deeply in love with the 27 Frequency pieces of heart, soul and mystery because art is an exploration of what is unspoken and has no words in which to be defined.
